I have something I need to get off my chest concerning podcast promotion…
When I see someone promote a podcast they’ve been featured on with a caption along the lines of: “I was so honored to be part of this podcast! Thank you sooo much for having me!!”, it doesn’t make me want to listen to the episode.
This might come as surprise because I am ALL about expressing gratitude (my love language is words of affirmation, after all!)…..but that type of caption just isn’t an effective marketing strategy.
Why?
Because it doesn’t actually give us any information about WHY we should listen.
It certainly doesn’t make me want to listen more because I don’t know what I would even be listening to in the first place!
Engage Your Audience with Compelling Details
To promote a podcast feature in a way that actually drives engagement and gets your message out into the world, you HAVE to lean into the details.
Think about it – what’s more interesting: the fact that you were on a podcast or what you said on that podcast?
So rather than simply posting a picture of the podcast’s cover, post a graphic with a hard-hitting quote or video clip of an “AHA” moment from the episode. Then take it a step further and unpack that quote or moment as to how it relates to your ideal client’s/audience’s life in the caption. (Check out this post I recently shared for an example!)
…And then be sure to tag the podcast host and tell them how much you appreciate them supporting your message. 😉
By giving your audience a good bite of the episode, they’re MUCH more likely to want the whole slice.
Because the thing is, this isn’t just about wanting someone to listen to a podcast or getting more streams…it’s about getting your message out there powerfully and reaching people who could really use your help.
That isn’t something I take lightly – and I’m willing to bet neither do you. 🙂
