I got a really loving message from a member of our community named Nikolina in response to the newsletter I shared about outlasting your competition. In it, she asked a really important question that I want to share with you today. She wrote…“Maybe more the question of how to be authentic, and stay authentic, when you see the world around you :)”
Being authentic is all about being genuine, right? To me, an example is taking the time to be present and really listen to others. Sharing yourself fully in a tender and honest manner. Letting go of trying to be perfect and just being you.
And showing up in that way really comes back to understanding that you don’t have to be all things, to all people, all the time.
It isn’t easy to ignore your Inner Critic. But if you try to blend in with the crowd by hiding away your true self, you’ll end up exhausted and feeling like you’re living a lie…not to mention that you’ll miss out on the opportunity to lead and serve and make an impact.
By being brave and choosing to show up authentically, you’re able to share your ideas, talents, and gifts with those who crave your knowledge. You get to “enjoy the ride.”
My advice?
- Stay true to you
- Follow your joy
- Trust your instincts
- Do things in your own time
- Suppress the expectations and pressure you put on yourself by looking at what others are doing
- Ditch the deep-rooted urge to be like (and liked by) everyone else and focus on being someone you like
…And the rest will unfold in perfect order. 🙂
