This is a slower time of year for some businesses, but some are experiencing a high workload. If you’re the latter, it’s key to prevent yourself from getting too overwhelmed.
Overwhelm causes us to drain our energy much more quickly and leads to a lot less productive environment, thereby offering new reasons to be even more overwhelmed.
Ways to control these urges?
- I’ve said it a hundred times and I’ll say it again, lol, but writing all to-do’s down on paper will free up a lot of brain space. The re-run that plays over and over of everything you have to do will no longer be necessary.
- Get as much sleep as possible. Forget your usual routines and go to bed early if you can. The stress here again drains our bodies and we are more likely to catch a cold which could then really put a wrench in things. Plenty of sleep and eating right allows us to perform at peak levels, whereas when we are exhausted we are more likely to make mistakes and get less done.
- Be open and honest with customers about your high volume of work and ask for their patience as you try your hardest to accommodate everyone’s needs in a timely manner. People are generally more forgiving than we think.
- Be gentle with yourself. Don’t beat yourself up – that’s the worst thing you can do. Instead, think back to some of the most challenging experiences you’ve had. Does this time beat that? Usually not in which case you now have proof you can get through this period too. Tell yourself positive affirmations that you can handle this workload and you will do it well and efficiently. You’d be shocked at how far belief will take you.
What other keys do you have to reduce overwhelm?
Hang in there! 🙂
